How We Determined The Best Eugene, OR Neighborhoods In 2020

In order to rank the best neighborhoods in Eugene, we had to determine what criteria defines a "best".

Using crime, census, and extrapolated BLS data, we arrived at the following set of criteria:

  • High incomes
  • Low unemployment rates
  • Low crime
  • High home prices
  • High population densities (A proxy for things to do)

We then ranked each neighborhood with scores from 1 to 22 in each category, where 1 was the best.

Next, we averaged the rankings for each neighborhood to create a best neighborhood index.

And finally, we crowned the neighborhood with the lowest best neighborhood index the "Best City Neighborhood In Eugene." We're lookin' at you, Laurel Hill Valley.

  1. I found it interesting that the Fairmont neighborhood of Eugene, Oregon was listed as the best neighborhood due to low umemployment, crime rate, and high population density. My friend is going to be buying his first home and has been thinking about moving to Oregon. Are there other benefits to living in Oregon in general?

While the Whitacker neighborhood is ranked very low, not to be overlooked is that in the past ten years it has outdone most of Eugene for creativity and access to a diversity of people ,food and beer, wine and spirits conoisseurs. This should be taken into consideration when ranking any neighborhood
