1.Franklin Barbecue Is So Good That Time Stands Still When It Touches Your Lips
We know it’s cliche to start a food article about Austin with bbq, but we’re not uptight foodies from CA and we damn well know good food when we see it. And Franklin’s Barbecue is the kind of great food that makes you stop and appreciate life.
Ask 92.5% of people in Austin and they will say that standing in line at Franklin’s isn’t only worth it, but it’s an experience unto itself.
Let me put it this way. If all you had to do was stand in line for 4 hours to find divine inspiration, would you do it? Yea, thought so.
2. Little Deli & Pizzeria: Where Sandwiches and Pizza Really Come To Life
Ever have that craving for a both a sandwich and a pizza? We’re not talking that fake California Pizza crap where you put the sandwich on the pizza. We’re talking a legit sandwich and pizza combo.
Little Deli & Pizzeria fills that need and then some.
From their wonderful roast beef sandwich to their traditional slice of pizza, they have something for everyone. Get ready to bring your family and friends time again.
3. Yes, We Are Definitely Going To Eat. And Eat. And Eat.
Hey!… You Gonna Eat or What? doesn’t make sandwiches; it makes something much more.
Like a fine watch maker, Chef assembles masterpieces every day from the finest ingredients around. Hand crafted with thought, love, and attention.
And then deep fries them.
Get a Monte Cristo and you’ll never regret anything else in life again.
4. Oh Boy! We’re About To Talk About Po’ Boys!
Turf N Surf Po’ Boy
407 Lavaca St
4.5 Stars and 629 Reviews On Yelp
We’re not the biggest seafood fans, but amazing seafood is like porn: you know it when you see it.
Turf N Surf Po’ Boy has amazing seafood.
Fresh ingredients, huge portions, and all mixed in the perfect combination, you can’t ask for anything more.
In addition to surf, don’t forget to try the turf: cilantro fries and jalapeno hush puppies.
5. You Scream, I Scream, We All Scream For… Dolce Neve Gelato.
You’re not getting ice cream (or gelato) so much as a small plate of deliciousness.
While the standard variety flavors like coffee and vanilla are great, Neve really shines through with it’s daily unique flavors. Things like goat cheese and pecan. Or ricotta gelato.
Not quite your parents ice cream.
6. tacos. Tacos. TACOS!
Tacos are not so much a food, but a way of life for some people in Austin.
Torchy’s Tacos delivers that way of life in the best form that you can get.
And with names like The Democrat, Brushfire, and Trailer Park would you really expect anything less?
7. Jack Allen’s Kitchen — Omg This Place Is Friggin Delicious
Jack Allen’s Kitchen combines the beauty of brunch with the beauty of Austin. The keeping it weird, but still keeping it fresh.
We’re talking fresh smashed guacamole, but with pumpkin seeds and cojita cheese. Red chile fries that you’ll remember forever. And chorizo stuffed pork.
Yea, thats pig inside of pig awesomeness.
8. Well That Was A Bit Of An Odd(ly) Delicious Duck
Well in terms of a name of a restaurants, Odd Duck is perhaps our favorite of all time. And true to its name, it deliver one odd duck indeed.
Chicken fried chick egg. Check
Texas toast, frog leg gravy. Yep, that’s a thing.
We could eat here once a week for the rest of our lives, no problem.
9. Bringing Brunch Back At Bouldin Creek Cafe
Brunch is probably the best meal of the day. Well at least right up there with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What can we say, we are equal opportunity eaters.
Bouldin Creek Cafe does brunch right. With tofu scramble that even non-vegetarians drool over and blueberry cornbread, it’s got the right kind of taste for everyone.
10. Big. Fat. Food Truck. Amazeballs.
God, nothing puts a smile on our face faster than a slogan like “Big. Fat. Donuts.” What gorgeous imagery.
Gourdough’s lives up to the hype and then some.
Mother Clucker is that good. Dirty Berry, oh yea. These are the kind of donuts you’ve been waiting for your whole life.
11. Uchi Provides Food That Needs To Be Experienced
Uchi isn’t so much Japanese food as it is art. Well, really delicious art.
The restaurant is kind of like Apple in the sense that every single aspect of it is part of the experience. From the impeccable ambiance, to the wait staff, to the food, experiencing it all at once makes the night.
The caveat. This experience ain’t cheap. Get your parents to take you or wait for a special occasion.
12. We Have A Fever. And The Only Prescription Is More Ramen.
There’s soup, then there’s ramen, then there’s Ramen Tatsu-Ya.
While we normally don’t think of brussel sprouts and ramen, we do now. Sour Yodas all day every day please.
While we can never finish a whole bowl of ramen in one sitting, we’re always down for a bowl of the good stuff.
13. Hopdoddy Has Some Bomb Diggity Burgers
We have a theory that says once you put a certain amount of stuff on top of a burger, it’s no longer a burger, but a sandwich. Hopdoddy tows that line in the best tasting way possible.
Take the Lano Pablano as an example:
- Perfectly cooked angus burger
- Grilled poblano peppers
- Applewood smoked bacon
- Jalapeño cheese
Burger or sandwich?
Anyways, these are without a doubt, some damn fine eating. Be aware that there will probably be a line.
14. All This Meat And No Beer? Let’s Fix That.
Ahh, a garden of beer. That’s what we’re talking about.
Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden lives up to it’s name providing a solid selection of sausage and beer.
You can go here for the drink and the experience. It’s the kind of pub where you should bring a friend, or ten.
15. And Last But Not Least…. More Bar-B-Q
Like good burnt ends, we double sided this list with bar-b-q.
Rudy’s Country Store & Bar-B-Q delivers some super high quality brisket. The kind that you dream about on a frequent basis (Or at least we do).
Because at the end of day, nothing says Texas like some bar-b-q holy goodness.
And now excuse us as we go attempt to eat a house.
