I have visited the small town of Spencer Indiana several times in the past few years. I've stayed at least a week each time spending time with an aging family member. I am always amazed at the beauty of Spencer and I've nick named it " Thomas Kinkadeville". Most of the town seems to be old two story homes. Their yards lavishly decorated with ornate flowers and greenery. One can easily tell the folks there take great pride in their property. It feels much like stepping back a hundred years or so into the past. People there are very friendly and seem to have big hearts. There is much to do in Spencer. McCormic's Creek State Park and the Owen-Puttnam State forest are breathtakingly beautiful. The comunity frequently has public events going on. It is also in close distance to other towns which have lots to see and do as well. After all that running around, if you are hungry, Spencer is a great place to be. Main Street Coffee is a sweet little shop. It is a great place to relax or to meet new folks. The staff is wonderful. Each time I'm in town the place I must always go to eat is Chamber's Smorgasbord. It is a nice family restaurant with great food and great prices. The employees provide wonderful service as well. A beautiful eatery to behold is El Ranchero. The artistry in every aspect of the walls and furniture alone is well worth every penny spent. The food and service were also quite supreme. I cannot say enough about this fabulous restaurant.
The only bad things I know about Spencer is that vehicle accidents seem to occur at a higher rate. Drive carefully and be watchful while there. Also the crime rate is certainly higher than in my home town. I think as always in traveling it is smart to be very aware and cautious. In all my trips though so far I have not personally encountered any problems. I learn these things from the local newspaper and my family who live there.
