Tyriek Carr -

I live in Portsmouth and I honestly don't find it bad. I just got back from a trip in Toledo and it looked so much worse. My family went from living in the worst spot in Portsmouth to living on of the best streets. The only problem is drugs and lawyers always being involved with missing or dead prostitutes. Criminals only mess with other criminals. The only spot you don't want to be at is in the East end. It isn't 'dangerous' but there isn't anything but crazy white crackheads, prostitutes, and burnt homes from m**h lab explosions. I like the Schools. My high school has a 10mil dollar athletic complex. Also, I only recognized one photo of Portsmouth and it was of the dorms for our local university. Shawnee State University is a really good school and has some programs that are best in the nation.

I was born in Portsmouth, and I don't think you explained it very well. We used to have a lot of industry such as steel mill, coke plant, shoe factory, atomic plant, etc. We even had public transit. When these things went out, it left struggling families. Commerce tried to create jobs with lots of restaurants and shopping centers, but the income level is very low even though people work hard. They do have a great college: Shawnee State University. They also have a great sense of history. Just check out the murals along the river on the floodwalls. People there are the kind of people who work together to make it, even when times are hard. If you are going to present the negative, you really should present the positive as well.

I'm from Ohio.. And I've seen the corruption first hand in Portsmouth, drank with a guy who labeled himself as the 'shark'... His daddy owned all the steel mills down along the river
